AUGUST 2019

This Saturday, we will end the series, “A Case for Kindness,” by exploring the “Golden Rule.” Below is a Scripture and prayer for each day, Monday thru Friday, along with a link for a devotional thought and music to be used at your discretion.  I hope taking time each day helps to better prepare you to engage in worship this weekend. You are always welcome to comment and subscribe!

Monday: 5 Signs We're Failing At It

Ephesians 2:8-10

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

My God, you are sufficient. You provision and your plan is perfect. You have made all things, and you sustain all things. Sometimes I try to do everything on my own, forgetting that you have provided all I really need and simply desire that I rest in you. Fill me with your Spirit so that I am equipped and ready to extend your kindness to others. Amen.

Tuesday: In the Workplace

2 Samuel 9:7

“Don’t be afraid!” David said. “I intend to show kindness to you because of my promise to your father, Jonathan. I will give you all the property that once belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will eat here with me at the king’s table!”

My God, you are a God who works for the good of all. The reality of your generosity and compassion is beyond human understanding. You owe me nothing, but you overwhelm me with grace, mercy, and love. Help me to be a vehicle for change in my world—speaking out for justice and helping to create a culture of kindness. Amen.

Music: Greatest of These

Wednesday: In the World

Philippians 3:8-9

Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him.”

My God, your sacrifice has defeated sin and death. You made a way to bring healing and peace to the world you created. I have nothing to fear; you have already given me everything. The response you ask of me is to love others, seek justice, and act in mercy. Give me boldness in bringing your kingdom of kindness and grace to my world. Amen.

Thursday: The Titanium Rule

1 John 4:11-12

So, my loved ones, if God loved us so sacrificially, surely we should love one another. No one has ever seen God with human eyes; but if we love one another, God truly lives in us. Consequently, God’s love has accomplished its mission among us.

My God, you are love, and your love is limitless. You are mercy, and your mercy is undeserved. You are grace, and your grace is without measure. I am most thankful and mindful of the love, mercy, and grace I have received when I share it with others. Live through me today. Amen.

Friday: Do Unto Others

Philippians 2:3-4

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

My God, you made a perfect world. With intentionality, purpose and love, you designed a place of peace, creativity, and relationship. Though sin has brought grief and brokenness, your love and grace offer joy and healing. Give me a humble heart that seeks to serve others. Amen.
