Devotional: Is Your World Too Small?

Proverbs 19:1-2

Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and a fool. Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes.

Gentle Savior, you stepped away from the hurry of life to find moments of solace and peace. As you took time to breathe in the glory of all you had made, you experienced the Spirit’s refreshment in your soul. Slow my steps to be aware of my world so that I don’t miss all that you have set before me. Amen.

Devotional: How to Create Sanctuary in Our Lives

Joshua 5:13-15

When Joshua was near the town of Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and demanded, “Are you friend or foe?”

“Neither one,” he replied. “I am the commander of the Lord’s army.”

At this, Joshua fell with his face to the ground in reverence. “I am at your command,” Joshua said. “What do you want your servant to do?”

The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did as he was told.

Holy God, any place where you are present is sacred. You meet with your children in your time, in your space, and in your way. Build in me an awareness of your presence and a need for the rest and communion that only you provide. Amen.

Devotional: The Table and the Altar

Revelation 3:20

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.

Gracious Redeemer, you are a God of abundance. The banquet of love you offer is lavish and available for all who will partake. You have placed within the simplicity of a meal the radical expression of transforming relationships. Open my heart to the community in which I dwell, offering grace and mercy in the same measure with which I have been given these things. Amen.

Devotional: Grounded Enough to Notice When Jesus Shows Up

Psalm 16:7-8

I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.

Spirit of God, you can be heard in a still small voice, found in the laughter of a friend, and felt in the cries of the wounded. Even in a loud and busy world, your presence seeps through, finding its home where it is welcomed. I invite your clarity to make me fully present with you in this day. Amen.

Devotional: Kindness

Colossians 3:12

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

Kind and Forgiving Sovereign, you move with patience and gentleness. You exist without the limitations of time, and you relish the beauty of redeemed relationships. Your plan and priority have always been, and will always be, creating a Kingdom of love and kindness. Help me to find my priorities today in humbly sharing your mercy with those you place in my path. Amen.

Devotional: The Invitation to Notice

1 Corinthians 1:26-29

Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.

Precious Lord, you never hide yourself from your children; you desire to be seen and known. However, you rarely are found in ways that are expected. You have invited me to be still, to know you are God, and to find rest in you. Help me to recognize you in the way you choose to reveal yourself to me today. Amen.
