WholeLife Daily Reflections

September 2022

During our annual “Great Question!” series, we are addressing questions on the hearts and minds of our attenders. There are a great many topics in the life of a Christ follower worth exploring, and God welcomes our questions and uses them to draw us closer into relationship with our Savior.

Great Question! 2022

Devotional: God Who Asks

James 1:5

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

Questioning God, you are not afraid of critical thinking and open dialogue. As a matter of fact, you stepped into humanity to model the kind of conversational relationship you desire. Thank you for understanding my uncertainty, for sitting with me in my doubts, and for offering me the peaceful assurance of your grace. Amen.

Devotional: Are We Asking the Wrong Question?

John 10:9-10

Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

Living Savior, you know the plans you have for me, and they are plans to build your Kingdom on Earth. You are eager for a relationship that is not bound in right answers but in an open heart. Help me to live out your gospel of abundant life in my world today. Amen.

Devotional: How to Sit with the Questions & Find Peace

Nahum 1:7

The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.

God Who Knows, you are patient and kind, full of compassion and endless mercy. You hurt with those who hurt, and you rejoice with those who rejoice. In the midst of everything you bless the questioning heart with acceptance and understanding. Help me to trust when there are no easy answers and to find rest in your presence. Amen.

Devotional: Mary and the Sacred Act of Questioning

1 Thessalonians 5:19-22

Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. Do not scoff at prophecies, but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil.

Ever Mindful Creator, you understand the frailty of humanity and the limitations of your creatures. You have placed hope and trust in your children to accomplish what is impossible without your strength and mercy. Open my ears to hear your voice and to walk in faith, trusting you will accomplish your purpose in my life. Amen.

Devotional: Unbelief

Matthew 11:28-30

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Merciful Savior, you labored in the garden as you contemplated what was to come. Though you sought a different path, your love far outweighed your anguish. I lay my burdens before you, knowing my doubts will be met with your compassion and grace. Amen.

Devotional: The Wonderful Whys

Lamentations 3:22-24

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”

Sovereign Lord, you are majestic and holy, and your ways are incomprehensible. Your wisdom surpasses human understanding, and your grace is without measure. Thank you for accepting my questions and gently embracing me in my doubts. Amen.
