OCTOBER 2019

Hospital Church will conclude a series addressing texts in the Bible that are often misused. Our devotional this month will address the final topic, “Do Not Judge.” Below is a text and prayer for each day, Monday thru Friday, along with a link for a devotional thought and music to be used at your discretion.  I hope taking time each day helps to better prepare you to engage in worship this weekend.  I hope taking time each day helps to better prepare you to engage in worship this weekend. You are always welcome to share, comment, and subscribe!

Monday:  Judge Not?

John 8:7

They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!”

El Roi, God Who Sees, you are discerning and wise. There is nothing hidden from you. Your gaze pierces through all barriers, and you view through a holy lens of grace. Help me to be aware of my own brokenness and offer the same kindness to others as you have offered to me. Amen.

Devotional: Judge Not?

Music: Your Loving Kindness

Tuesday: Why Are Christians So Judgmental?

Colossians 3:12-13

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.  Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

Yahweh-Rapha, Lord Who Heals, you are a God who reconciles. You created in perfection and immediately set in motion a plan to restore what had been broken. When I wander, you seek me, and when I am pursued by evil, you reclaim me as your own. Help me to reflect you as a reconciler in my world. Amen.

Devotional: Why Are Christians So Judgmental?

Music: Heaven On Earth

Wednesday: What Does It Mean to Not Judge?

James 1:19-20

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.  Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.

Yahweh-Shalom, Lord is Peace, you are patient and long-suffering. You came to this world as a beacon of hope and a foundation for peace. Fill me with your wisdom that I may offer those around me the hope and peace you provide. Amen.

Devotional: What Does It Mean to Not Judge?

Music: Jesus, Friend of Sinners

Thursday: Rediscovering the High Road

Colossians 4:6

Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.

Yahweh-Nissi, Lord My Banner, your presence is eternal. Your sovereignty is just and merciful. You go before me and behind me in all circumstances. May my words and my actions reflect the banner of grace with which I am covered. Amen.

Devotional: Rediscovering the High Road

Music: Carried to the Table

Friday: Taking My Thumb Off the Scale

Philippians 2:3-5

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

Devotional: Taking My Thumb Off the Scale

Music: Generous Giver
